Also - there will be ditch lights at BotD. We're confident that we'll be able to swing the price of the generator between fund-raising, surplus, and personal donations.

matt, i apologize if i offended you with that remark but it was not my intent.. i was just stating how you as war o crat have the final say.. i would do the same thing if the tables were turned.

i think it is totally acceptable for bows to break weapons if there is 0 death count basically now i have nothing to disagree with .. haha! i am glad there is a 0 death count.. thats pretty awesome perhaps i should have read the rules carefully as if i had saw that then i never would have questioned the arrows breaking weapons.. heh heh

Quote
So to say that "allowing bows to break weapons will force everybody to play with S&B" is the same argument as "allowing all weapons to block arrows will force nobody to play with bows."

although i do have a response to this from walsh.. i think any skilled archer would rather have someone die or be wounded then lose a weapon in my opinion atleast so i feel your argument is incorrect but i suppose that would be based on the archers opinion as paul stated before i have never seriously played with a bow besides the first twilight in double domination where me and adam racked up the kills..

Quote
Bowmen give up a decent amount to be able to fire those arrows, more-so now that they can only ever do 2pts of damage, them breaking weapons (with a VERY reasonable way to get them back [50ct at Base]) seems like a balanced approach to me.

bowen i am personally struggling with your logic regarding this specific topic.. especially when you compare a bow in a militia game to a 2 pt throwing weapon.. perhaps you cannot recall the last time goliath brandobis or ted the farmer slaughtered you from 50 feet with simply shooting one arrow but i can recall nathanial and dracious both killing me where i thought was truly well defended from across the field (could this mean they were not aiming for my swords but me instead?) i truly think a skilled archer is one of the deadliest things in any battle game or militia scenario.. much more worthwhile then a "2 pt throwing weapon"

i also feel confused as to what you think bowmen give up to fire those arrows, is it not there choice to fire arrows what could they be giving up? i am also confused as to how you think 50 seconds at a base is a balanced approach when the game is obviously aimed to be fast paced and chaotic (at least from what i can tell i am sure it will be) and the rule of 50 count for the weapon return basically dosent even matter if there is a 0 second death count as you tag the base and are back at it.

either way i am now even more excited for botd then i was before looks to be a bad ass event and i appreciate you answering my questions matt, and the fact that there will be ditch lights makes it even better.

Bridge Battle and Caravan need more space than we have in the woods, so, they'll be played on the main ditch field.

At GE Last year, there was a militia style battle, arrows did 3 points of damage, they still destroyed weapons, red weapons still broke shields, and bows could still be broken.  There was no rules on repairing your gear.  This did not unbalance the game in the least bit.  In fact, I went flo for the entire match and didn't find the weapon breaking rules to be detrimental to the game at all.  Most archers when getting rushed by someone in armor is going to get one arrow off and deal their damage, but if it's more then x points the attacker is going to put the archer on the run.  I was wearing 4 points on my arms and chest at the time too.

With the ditch field being used, archers will not have as much space to work with, so their effectiveness will be limited.  With a 0 death count, repairs can be done easily Smiley

This event looks very cool.  I can't find the site location or directions here, though.  Can you help me?

And anyone who's going to be flying in, we can help to arrange rides from the local airport, so just drop someone on the bid team a line (that's anyone in the Ebon Order) and we'll work on it.

I don't know what route you'd take driving, but if it's coming up highay 69 from Toronto, it's a gorgeous drive. You'll see some of the more beautiful scenery in Ontario driving that way.

Either way - lookin' forward to seeing you up there Smiley

If I can come, which isnt sure, and I drive, I will be coming in from the west.  I get to drive along the Michigan UP, cross in to Canada at Sault St. Marie, and then floow the highway into Sudbury.  Would yall rate the Canadian part of that drive as worth it?

I went to college in the Sault, so I did the commute from there to Toronto quite a bit, even though it's been more then a few years now, I'd say the drive from Sault to Sudbury is on par with taking 69 up from T.O, maybe a bit better cause there is more water.

Some great veiws along Hwy 17 following the Lakes and rivers of the North Channel.

Hah.  I kept mentioning all weekend how sad it was that I left BotD on my wish list for like 8 years.

Anyway, thank you all for a great weekend.  The link below is to my event blog.  Read it if you are interested in my take.
