Wow, what a wild Tuesday. We began with some Florentine ditching between myself, Tristan and Syan and then went single sword with Morigan and Mara joining in. After a good amount of ditching, Syan planted his foot in an awkward way and injured his knee. He was unable to move his knee and we had to call the ambulance. First time in eight years of amtgard I've had to call an ambulance, and hopefully the last. A big thanks goes out to Mara who was a very trusty medic, checking for pulses and settling Syan while in tremendous pain. She even checked his blood pressure because she had a stethoscope and sphygmomanometer handy (She was super prepared, it was awesome!). By the time the Ambulance arrived Adam was a lot more receptive and in a lot less pain and I'm sure he'll be back to Amtgard in no time. Just a point that accidents can happen in amtgard and you can never be too prepared.
As the ambulance pulled away with Mara accompanying Syan to the Emergency Room, Scar showed up so Tristan and I ditched with him for a bit and then went our separate ways.

Grats on your first medical emergency going smoothly.
It always amazes me how something so simple can amount to something serious. Planting your foot in an awkward way...you wouldn't think it would seize your knee up, but there you have it. I did something like that where basically i planted my foot and landed on it in such a way that the weight of my entire body was trying to push my knee backwards. While it didn't end in an ambulance it also didn't end there! I had problems years later that stemmed from that accident.

Mara was infact amazing and I can't thank her enough for staying with me the whole time (got out of the hospital at around 11:30 pm, just got home now)
I'm sporting a fashionable splint and some shiny chrome crutches but hopefully not for too long. I indeed intend to return.

Good to hear you're doing well Adam. I'm still wondering who cast the wounding spell on you, they were ruthless. Glad you have Sunday off now I guess?

Yeah, even if I can walk ok by then I wouldn't try running around. I've been invited to play board games with some friends but we'll see.
Leg is better today, splint is off, ice is on, I can stand on the leg but not walk on it yet or bend it much. Once the swelling goes down I'll have a much better idea of what to expect for the next few days.

Yeah, it really was a freak accident, it happened to fast it caught me totally by surprise. Considering how many times I've basically done the same kind of sidestep/dodge maneuver before, I have no idea why my knee suddenly decided to pop like that :/

It sounds like you had a worse instance of what happens to me every now and then. It feels like my knee dislocates long enough for me to crumple to the ground - though, for me, it pops back in place, puts me out of the fight for ten minutes, and then is kinda sore for a few days. No serious swelling like what you're going through. I'm not sure what the explanation is that something you or I do on the average day can be fine for the most part, then one day break your shit. You're not the only one, at least.

Thanks for reminding me Lars. I didn't get to sign a credit sheet either but I wanted a Wizard credit.
I was going to joke and say that it was you coming out (unlike usual) that jinxed me, but I could just as easily blame Scar. Maybe he telepathically tampered with my knee from afar and once I was off the field he swooped in to have all the ditching fun for himself.
I will be back out, if not next tuesday then most likely next sunday. Despite this being a fluke I'm hoping that my knee won't be permanently weakened by this. I may just have to make kneepad garb out of a pillow and wear that from now on XD

I'm interested in how your recovery's gone, Adam. I hope you're doing better. You should consider playing with a brace if at all. When I messed up my ankle, I wore a brace for months.
Most amusing that night was chatting with the medics, who said that I should have hit you while you were down. But I'm nice, I swear. I'm not sure how I turn into Nurse Mara all the time, but it happens. We can spar on crutches next time if you want, in order to even the odds.
Get well soon!
(P.S. That day should give me an undeclared credit, and I'm about 95% positive that I will convert all my undeclared credits into monk credits at some point soon.)

Yeah, with the confusion of the ambulance I didn't make a credit sheet... I also have a few other Tuesday Sheets in my possession. I'll settle up with Alex this weekend.

The healing has gone pretty well. I think it was 4 or 5 days before I could comfortably walk without a crutch and a couple more days before my limp was gone, but I discovered on wednesday there was still a muscle in there somewhere that needed to be stretched and strengthened so I started gently doing so, trying to loosen it up and put a little weight on it to get it worked and I seem to have set myself back as I ended up regaining my limp yesterday and seem to have agitated a muscle that was mostly silent before.
I still can't run or jog but I can ride my bike. I'm wondering if I'll be able to participate this sunday (I intend to come out even if I can't play) or if I'll have to just be a cheerleader/photographer.
There do still seem to be a few small spots around my knee joint that feel bruised, I'm not sure if those will be permanent or not. The healing was quite fast initially but seems to be alot slower now. I'm glad I'm not working though as I'm able to let it rest and take it easy as much as possible.
I also have pictures from each day to document the reduction of the swelling. The injured knee still doesn't look quite right compared to the normal one.

Make sure you wear a gold sash or you might get stabbed in the back by some random assassin. Just saying... you can't trust those assassins.
